Construction activities have now restarted both offshore and onshore at Afungi site, with over 4,000 workers currently mobilized of which over 3,000 are Mozambican nationals.
BC Ferries currently has a contract with Damen Shipyards Group for the build and delivery of four Damen Road Ferries 8117 E3 design—known by BC Ferries as “Island Class” vessels.
The ferries will operate services connecting Nanaimo with Gabriola Island, and Campbell River with Quadra Island. They are scheduled to commence operations by 2027.
In a competitive tender process that attracted many international bidders, Damen Shipyards has won the contract to build and supply four, fully electric, passenger car ferries for BC Ferries.
