Only three months after coming on stream Johan Castberg is producing at peak capacity of 220,000 barrels of oil per day. This increases energy deliveries from the Barents Sea by 150%.
31 March, at 10.35, the Johan Castberg oil field in the Barents Sea came on stream. The field will be producing for 30 years and bolsters Norway’s role as a reliable and long-term supplier of energy.
Vår Energi ASA and its partners found gas in the “Elgol” prospect; however, preliminary estimates indicate that the discovery is not profitable given current price assumptions.
