ClassNK has issued an approval in principle (AiP) for a methanol fuel tank design concept developed by SRC Group. The certification demonstrates its feasibility from regulatory and safety perspectives.
The operation took place at CHI Shanghai's shipyard terminal, where the COSCO Shipping Libra safely bunkered 2,100 tons of methanol fuel within 10 hours.
Technology to measure water in fuel will contribute to minimising costs associated with using methanol, reducing the barriers to shipping's energy transition.
Developed in close cooperation with Damen, the tugboat follows previous world firsts such as the Hydrotug (hydrogen-driven) and the Methatug (methanol-driven).
