Shearwater is applying its proprietary Isometrix streamer technology to offshore site characterisation, with two 3D surveys being carried out on the Norwegian Continental Shelf this summer.
The surveys, covering approximately 96 sq km and 60 sq km, are being acquired in August using the Isometrix system with newly enabled site characterisation capabilities. The technology allows 3D High-Resolution and 3D Ultra-High-Resolution seismic data to be collected in a single pass using the same streamer spread. The resulting seismic data will be delivered alongside industry-standard analogue data products and reporting.
The projects are designed to support geohazard identification and well planning, extending Shearwater’s experience in high-resolution marine geophysical acquisition into site characterisation applications.
The solution combines large streamer spreads towed at greater depths with an acquisition platform designed to improve weather resilience and operational efficiency. According to Shearwater, this approach allows larger and more regional surveys to be conducted than is typical for site characterisation, giving operators greater flexibility when assessing well locations, drilling trajectories and future development options.
The company said the application of Isometrix technology could improve the efficiency of site surveys while providing high-resolution imaging of potential geohazards.

The technology is intended to support decisions related to well placement and offshore engineering while expanding the use of Shearwater’s existing seismic technology into new applications.
