Lakeway Link suspends traffic between Södertälje and Gdynia

Published:

Lakeway Link, owned by Wallenius Lines and Greencarrier, is suspending its scheduled service between Södertälje and Gdynia from 15 May at the latest.

The decision is a result of the delayed refurbishment of the Södertälje lock, which continues to restrict access to Lake Mälaren and the strategically important customer base around Västerås.

The lack of access to Lake Mälaren means that the fundamental conditions on which the operation is based cannot be met, making the service economically unsustainable in its current form.

Lakeway Link is now adjusting its operations and will continue to run the company under a new structure. Demand for tonnage remains strong, and several alternative solutions are being evaluated to enable continued operations until the Södertälje lock has been completed.

The change in strategic direction entails a restructuring of the business, which will impact the organisation.

The reconstruction of the Södertälje lock was originally scheduled for completion in 2026, but due to the complexity of the project, it has been delayed until at least 2028.
