On 23 June 2026, Hanwha Philly Shipyard delivered the subsea rock installation vessel (SRIV) Acadia to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock. The vessel is the first of its kind under the U.S. flag and is designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions B.V. in the Netherlands.
Acadia is equipped with energy-efficient systems that reduce environmental impact, including battery packs, shore power connection and the option to operate on biofuel.
The vessel has an overall length of 140.5 metres (461 feet), a breadth of 34.1 metres (112 feet), and accommodation for 45 persons.
Acadia is designed to transport and install large volumes of rock on the seabed, securing subsea cables, pipelines and offshore wind foundations. With a capacity of up to 20,000 tonnes, the vessel is built for demanding operations across both oil, gas and renewable energy sectors.
A key feature is its fall pipe system, enabling precise placement of rock on the seabed – essential for protecting offshore infrastructure over time.
The vessel will initially support offshore wind projects off the coast of New York before moving on to operations in Europe.
