CS WIND Offshore has completed the first shipment of transition pieces for Vattenfall’s Nordlicht I offshore wind farm from its manufacturing facility at the Port of Aalborg, Denmark.
The components are now en route to the German North Sea, marking the first delivery under the company’s contract for the project.
Nordlicht I will feature 68 monopile and transition-piece foundation sets. Each transition piece stands approximately 23.7 metres tall, weighs about 362 tonnes and serves as the connection between the monopile foundation and the wind turbine tower.
DEME is responsible for transporting and installing the monopiles and transition pieces for both the Nordlicht I and Nordlicht II projects. Installation of the first monopile for Nordlicht I began on 1 July.
Located around 85 km north of the German island of Borkum, the 980 MW Nordlicht I project is part of Vattenfall’s Nordlicht offshore wind cluster. The neighbouring 630 MW Nordlicht II development will increase the cluster’s total installed capacity to more than 1.6 GW. Both wind farms are expected to enter commercial operation in 2028.
