A landmark restoration project at the Port of Liverpool has given new life to the historic Langton Dock Pumphouse, demonstrating Peel Ports Group’s commitment to preserving the region’s industrial heritage.
The Grade II listed building has undergone an extensive restoration programme, representing an investment of close to £1 million. Project managed by Steve Graham on behalf of the Mersey Infrastructure Engineering team and delivered in partnership with Specialist UK Restorations Ltd, the project has transformed the long-neglected structure while safeguarding an important piece of Liverpool’s maritime history for future generations.
The restoration was carried out with support from Ellie Lewtas and the Group Planning team, who ensured all necessary Listed Building Consents were secured before work commenced. Sefton Council was involved throughout the project and has recognised the positive impact of the restoration on the local historic environment.
The Langton Dock Pumphouse forms part of the historic dock estate and has long been recognised for its architectural and heritage significance. By investing in the building’s future, Peel Ports has demonstrated that responsible stewardship extends beyond port operations, supporting the preservation of important local landmarks that contribute to the character and history of the Liverpool waterfront.
Speaking about the project, Steve Graham, who project managed the restoration on behalf of the Mersey Infrastructure Engineering team, highlighted the importance of investing in the port’s historic estate and ensuring significant structures such as the Langton Dock Pumphouse remain part of Liverpool’s landscape for years to come.
The completion of the restoration marks another milestone in preserving the rich heritage of the Port of Liverpool, demonstrating how investment, engineering excellence and collaborative working can successfully safeguard important historic assets while contributing positively to the wider community.
