Haizea starts monopile production for UK’s Norfolk Vanguard West

Published:

Haizea Wind Group has started manufacturing monopiles (structures installed on the seabed to support offshore wind turbines) for the Norfolk Vanguard West offshore wind farm, located in the United Kingdom. To mark this milestone, Haizea Wind Group marked the first steel cutting at its facilities in the Port of Bilbao, coinciding with the visit of part of the project team.

Norfolk Vanguard West has a capacity of 1.4 GW and is being developed as part of a cluster with Vanguard East. Once fully operational, Vanguard West and East are expected to have an estimated combined installed capacity of 2.8GW.

This project represents the third consecutive monopile contract manufactured by Haizea Wind Group at its Bilbao facilities since their inauguration in 2024. The first was the East Anglia 3 project for Scottish Power (a subsidiary of Iberdrola), followed by the ongoing supply for the Hornsea 3 project, developed by the Danish group Ørsted.

In this context, Haizea Wind Group holds a global leadership position in the manufacture of monopiles for wind turbines exceeding 15 MW, following the expansion of its Bilbao facilities. Contracts awarded by three of the leading energy developers in Europe support the strength and long-term sustainability of the Haizea project, further consolidating its role as a benchmark and strategic partner within the wind supply chain.

Despite the volatility affecting the wind sector and ongoing global uncertainty linked to geopolitical factors and uneven competitive conditions with Asian manufacturers, Haizea Wind Group continues to meet the targets set out in its strategic and business plan and maintains a positive growth trajectory. The company has also strengthened its international positioning thanks to its adaptability and operational robustness, enabling it to sustain activity levels, safeguard employment —with a workforce of 1,500 professionals— and ensure the long-term sustainability of the project.

“We are very proud to be part of this project,” said Borja Zárraga, CEO of Haizea Wind Group. “Haizea plays a key role in driving Europe’s energy independence and industrial autonomy. We have the technology required to manufacture XXL components for higher-capacity turbines exceeding 20 MW, which strengthens our competitive positioning.”
