Last week, a unique situation occurred off the coast of Zeeland, the Netherlands. Van Oord’s two newest identical trailing suction hopper dredgers Vox Ariane and Vox Apolonia were working together to reinforce the coastline, both powered by the sustainable fuel LNG.
About 70% of the channel has currently been deepened from ‑14.5 to ‑16 metres and the expectation is that the project will be completed in the third quarter of 2023.
By installing a new, longer boom on Aeolus’ existing crane, the vessel will be ready to handle the newest generation up to 15 MW turbines for offshore wind projects.
Van Oord has been selected as preferred contractor for the construction of the Baltic Power offshore wind farm, 23 kilometres north of the Polish coastline.
