SolarDuck and the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) have been awarded a €3.2 million subsidy from the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) for the Steady Seas research programme.
The project forms part of the Philippines' broader effort to expand renewable energy generation and increase the share of renewables in the country's power mix to 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040.
Like many other parts of the economy for which direct electrification of battery use is not economically viable, shipping can use renewable energy stored as hydrogen or a variant of hydrogen.
