A satellite image released by the Ukrainian Navy shows significant damage to the Russian patrol ship Izumrud following a reported strike by a Ukrainian Sargan-3000 naval drone.
The image, taken in the port of Gelendzhik, shows the vessel moored alongside a quay with a large breach visible on its starboard side.
Izumrud served as a Russian border guard patrol ship and was involved in several incidents related to Russia’s actions against Ukraine. During the Kerch Strait attack on November 25, 2018, the vessel rammed the Ukrainian Navy tug Yany Kapu.
The patrol ship was built at the Almaz shipyard in St. Petersburg, launched in August 2013 and entered service with the Coast Guard of the Russian Federal Security Service in occupied Crimea on May 1, 2015.
The 62.5-metre vessel had a displacement of approximately 630–750 tonnes, a top speed of up to 27 knots and was equipped with a helicopter landing pad.
According to the Ukrainian Navy, the damage was caused by the Sargan-3000, a Ukrainian multipurpose naval unmanned combat platform that has been publicly presented as being in service with the force.
