AS Tallinna Sadam and PK Terminal OÜ signed a collaboration agreement and a right of superficies for the creation of a bulk and mixed cargo terminal in Muuga Harbor, which deals with the handling and storage of roundwood, pellets, crushed stone and metal products.
The contracts regard a period of 20 years, with the possibility of renewing for another 15 years.
According to Margus Vihman, member of the board of the Port of Tallinn, the construction of the new terminal will lead to a return to the Port of Tallinn in the form of port dues and freight and land use charges. This terminal will bring additional cargo and ship visits to Muuga Harbor, which are estimated to provide up to EUR 14.6 million in revenue for 20 years.
PK Terminal has the rights of use of the two shells and their backside used by the former steel plate galvanization plant in Muuga Harbor and the Koorma 2 property. The overall area of the dry bulk and mixed cargo terminal to be built is 4.4 ha and the planned capacity is up to 500,000 tons per year.
"The new terminal will mainly serve goods from Estonia to the Scandinavian countries, ie timber and timber products, and goods imported from Scandinavia to Estonia, such as rubble. In addition, the terminal is engaged in transshipment of metal products transported and valued here in Estonia"…Margus Vihman explained.
PK Terminal invests more than five million euros in the development of the terminal by investing in the modern technology of Muuga Harbor.
