Ukraine hits a Russian ship carrying eight “Kalibr” missiles

Published:

The joint operation to attack the port of Primorsk was carried out on the night of May 3. The Defense Forces also struck an oil terminal.

This was reported by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Acting Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Major General Yevgen Khmara, reported on the destruction of the following Russian facilities in the port of Primorsk:

  • missile ship “Karakurt” – carrier of cruise missiles of the “Kalibr” type;
  • patrol boat;
  • tanker of the shadow oil fleet.

The infrastructure of the oil port also suffered significant damage.

The Special Operations Forces reported that the affected facilities are located approximately 1,000 kilometers from the northern border of Ukraine.

At the time of the attack, the small missile ship “Karakurt” had eight “Kalibr” missiles with a range of up to 2,000 km on board and a launcher. It was also equipped with a sea-based Pantsir-M anti-aircraft missile and gun complex. In particular, the Karakurt was supposed to cover the infrastructure and the oil terminal from Ukrainian drones.

The affected oil terminal “Primorsk” is managed by the Russian state company “Transneft”. It is the largest in the Baltic Sea. All pipelines of the north-west of the Russian Federation converge to this terminal, from where oil and gas products are exported using the shadow fleet.

As a reminder, on May 3 it also became known that Ukrainian drones attacked two ships of the “shadow fleet” near Novorossiysk.
