On March 25, 2026, DEME celebrated another important milestone with the official naming of its new offshore wind turbine installation vessel, Norse Wind.
This marks a significant addition to DEME’s offshore installation fleet. Equipped with a powerful 3,200-ton crane, Norse Wind will transport and install the next generation of wind turbines and XXL monopiles in water depths of up to 70 meters. The ceremony, which was held at the Port of Oslo, brought together guests from Belgium and Norway to celebrate the latest vessel in DEME’s fleet. Norse Wind will soon set sail for the North Sea, where she will, in the coming years, transport and install Vestas offshore wind turbines on, among others, the Nordseecluster project (a joint offshore wind development by RWE and Norges Bank Investment Management).
Prior to the naming ceremony, DEME was honored to welcome Their Majesties the King and the Queen of the Belgians, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Maxime Prévot (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Development Cooperation) and Matthias Diependaele (Minister-President of the Government of Flanders, Flemish Minister for Economy, Innovation and Industry, Foreign Affairs, Digitalization and Facility Management) aboard Norse Wind.
Their joint presence emphasized the strong and enduring ties between Belgium and Norway and highlighted the shared commitment of both nations with regard to advancing the future of offshore wind. The vessel was officially named by Mrs. Ingrid Schulerud, Norway’s former Ambassador to Belgium.
“We are truly honored that guests from Belgium and Norway joined us today for the naming of Norse Wind, which represents a major step forward in DEME’s offshore transportation and installation capabilities. Our new vessel reflects DEME’s ambition to push boundaries, accelerate offshore wind deployment, and deliver innovative solutions for the energy sector. We look forward to seeing the vessel commence its first project, which will mark the start of a new chapter in our offshore wind installation activities,” explains Luc Vandenbulcke, CEO of DEME.
Future-proof design for next generation of wind turbines
Designed to install the next generation of offshore wind turbines, Norse Wind combines advanced technology with a strong focus on energy efficiency. Construction began in 2023 under Havfram, the Norwegian offshore wind contractor that was acquired by DEME in April 2025. Together with its sister vessel, Norse Energi, it will play a central role in delivering some of the world’s largest offshore wind projects, and it will further strengthen DEME’s leading position in the global offshore energy market.
The vessel has been equipped with a 3,200-ton crane and was purpose-built to handle the transportation and installation of the next generation of wind turbines and XXL monopiles in water depths of up to 70 meters. With the capacity to carry either four 20 MW turbines or six 15 MW turbines, Norse Wind is capable of transporting and installing significantly more power per trip than smaller vessels. This should result in highly efficient project executions.
