Enshore Subsea appointed to SSEN Distribution subsea cable installation framework

Published:

Enshore Subsea has been accepted onto Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Distribution’s subsea cable installation framework agreement, supporting a long-term programme of investment in Scotland’s electricity distribution network.

The multi-year framework will underpin the renewal and reinforcement of subsea electricity links serving island communities across the north of Scotland, supporting the continued decarbonisation of homes, businesses and local industry. The programme is intended to improve network resilience and provide additional capacity to meet growing demand as homes, businesses and communities increasingly adopt low‑carbon technologies.

SSEN Distribution’s investment programme will be delivered over the coming years, with projects allocated across a number of framework partners based on specialist capability and available resources.

The framework approach is designed to provide greater certainty for delivery, enable efficient planning of works, and strengthen supply chains supporting subsea activity, while allowing multiple projects to be delivered efficiently within the limited seasonal weather windows available for subsea installation.

Kevin Galbraith, SSEN Distribution’s Subsea Project Director (Large Capital Delivery), said:

“Subsea connections are becoming ever-more important as Scotland’s island communities seek to invest in EV charging, heat pumps, and the decarbonisation of their industries.

“In addition to providing the networks fit for supporting this growth in the use of clean power, these framework agreements will also underpin the ambitions of islanders to generate, store, and export more renewable energy.

“The involvement of Enshore Subsea will help ensure delivery of our investment will be rolled out in a seamless, co-ordinated way, and this will provide both customers and these partners with greater certainty. And it will also help Enshore Subsea offer greater job security and new opportunities for employment.”

Pierre Boyde, Chief Executive Officer of Enshore Subsea, said: “Enshore is pleased to have been accepted onto the SSEN subsea cable installation framework agreement. These projects are vital to ensuring continued development and network resilience of the communities in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland and Enshore looks forward to building a strong, collaborative relationship with SSEN as opportunities come forward.”

Enshore Subsea will work alongside SSEN Distribution and other framework partners as individual projects are developed and brought forward under the agreement.

Enshore Subsea is currently delivering subsea cable installation works on the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm, where it is responsible for offshore export cable installation activities including transfer from port to site, lay and burial, and support during jointing and cable protection system deployment. The project experience reflects Enshore Subsea’s ongoing work on complex subsea infrastructure projects in UK waters.
