Van Oord completed the largest beach restoration in Spain’s history, restoring the beaches south of the city of Valencia to their original size. The beaches have been slowly eroding since 1965.
Van Oord’s cutter suction dredger Biesbosch and trailing suction hopper dredger Vox Apolonia are teaming up to dredge the Prinses Amaliahaven located on Maasvlakte in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The aim of the collaboration is to further construct fascine mattresses, that play an important role in maintaining embankment stability, preventing land degradation and protecting waterways from erosion.
To expedite the process, monopiles are used as the foundation for the jetty. Van Oord is installing a total of 10 monopiles, including scour protection.
Among other improvements, the gantry crane will be extended by 25 metres, making the vessel ready to handle the next generation of monopile foundations for offshore wind projects.
This brand new offshore wind farm, located 18.5 kilometres off the west coast of the Netherlands near Egmond aan Zee, now generates enough renewable energy for more than 1 million Dutch households.
