The air cavity system maintains a thin layer of air over the flat bottom of the vessel’s hull, lowering resistance in the water and, thereby, fuel consumption.
Following the christening, the ship will undergo further sea trials, and the final systems will be installed by the Royal Netherlands Navy in Den Helder.
The cutter suction dredger will remove build-up sediment from the key shipping channels in the Demerara River, increasing navigational depths ensuring safe and efficient vessel traffic.
When completed, REV Ocean will conduct research covering the entire marine ecosystem, from the coastal zone to abyssal depths, and from polar regions to the tropics.
The dredger, which will be ready later this year, will be operated by the Port of Baku, a thriving transport hub on the western shore of the Caspian Sea.
Damen’s new TSHD 1000 will provide an important addition to the Port's fleet, replacing the long-serving vessel New Era, when she arrives in early 2027.
The vessel, named Caspian Lotus, joins the company’s fleet of over 50 vessels and barges. Caspian Lotus begins its career supporting dredging projects in the Persian Gulf.
