This policy explains what personal data SeaWanderer collects when you use seawanderer.org, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and what rights you have over it.

We process personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as implemented in Norway through the Personal Data Act (personopplysningsloven).

When you read the site. Our web server automatically records standard technical information: IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request, the page that referred you, and the time of the request. This happens for every visitor and is necessary for the site to function and to remain secure.

When you subscribe to the newsletter. Your email address, together with the date and source of your subscription.

When you create an account. Your username, email address, and any information you choose to add to your profile.

When you purchase a subscription. The billing information needed to complete the transaction. Card details are processed entirely by our payment provider and are never stored on our servers.

When you contact us. Whatever information you include in your message.

Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing carried out before the withdrawal.

We use cookies and similar technologies in three categories.

Strictly necessary. Session management, authentication, shopping basket and security. The site cannot function without them, and they are set regardless of your cookie choices.

Analytics. Used to understand in aggregate how the site is used — which pages are read, how visitors arrive, which devices they use. These are set only with your consent.

Advertising. Advertising is served on this site by third-party advertising partners. With your consent, they may use cookies to show you personalised advertising. Without consent you will still see advertising, but it will not be tailored to you.

You are asked for your cookie preferences on your first visit and can change them at any time. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent parts of the site from working.

We do not sell personal data.

We share data only with service providers that operate the site on our behalf — hosting, email delivery, payment processing, analytics and advertising. These providers process data under contract and only for the purposes we specify.

Some of these providers are established outside the European Economic Area. Where that is the case, transfers are made under the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or another valid transfer mechanism.

We may also disclose personal data where we are legally required to do so.

We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected for.

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

• Rectification — have inaccurate data corrected
• Erasure — have your data deleted, where no legal obligation requires us to retain it
• Restriction — limit how we process your data
• Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest
• Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
• Withdraw consent — at any time, where processing is based on consent

To exercise any of these rights, contact us through our contact page. We respond within one month of receiving a request.

If you believe your data has been handled unlawfully, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet, www.datatilsynet.no) or with the supervisory authority in your country of residence.

We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss or alteration. All traffic to this site is encrypted in transit. No system is entirely immune to risk, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

SeaWanderer is a professional publication and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 16.

This site links to external websites and carries advertising that leads to third-party sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to read their privacy policies before providing them with personal data.

We review this policy periodically and update it when our practices change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Material changes will be announced on the site.
